So, what’s going on this month? Aggressive rollerblading!
That’s right, for the next month, I’ll be investing a portion of my time to learning how to ride rails, do some jumps and try not to break my ass.
The idea came from a coworker of mine, Sung Choe, and his obsession with the once famous sport now driven underground. More on that later.
Right now, I have a set of boots, and am waiting for some wheels to come in the mail. Until then, I’ll be researching and posting videos and articles related to the sport until I actually get to do something substantial on my blades.
My experience Fruit-booting
For those of you who don’t know, fruit-booting is a derogatory term for rollerbladers. The sport has steadily declined since it’s burst of popularity in the 90’s. Now, you’re lucky to catch any aggressive skaters at a skate park or anywhere else.
Come to think of it, the last time I strapped on a pair of blades was in the late 90’s to play some roller hockey with the neighborhood kids. I wasn’t the greatest skater, but I can hold my own. I’m more concerned about being able to jump high enough to catch a rail and then jump off without hurting myself.
I was able to skate a little on Friday in a parking lot. It brought back a lot of memories, and, from what Sung says, I’ll be just fine when I finally get my wheels.
